Greatest moments in RPGs eh?
The first time you turn Obfusticate on the Malk in some specific spots. The ghostly whispers are very well done.

Heh, my first and only Bloodlines playthrough so far has been with a Malk, hence I thought that these whispers were normal. But yes, playing Bloodlines with a Malkavian was cool, some great dialog lines.

The most enjoyable thing in Bloodlines for me was the mission you had to sneak around on the ship with the Sarcophagus. I had no points in stealth and only one point in obfuscate, meaning that I could be unseen only while sitting still. Eventually I got detected when trying to sneak back from the sarcophagus and had to escape the ship with everyone shooting me in the back.

Finally managing to escape from the werewolf.

Also, I found using Dementation powers very satisfying.

Other than that:

Getting the car to work in Fallout 2, recruiting Goris.

The moment where my party in Fallout 2 stopped sucking and started kicking ass. I remember that was shortly after arriving at NCR (I think, this was the city with Tandy right?).
First we went to the tavern, Tandy's retarded son was picking a fight us, wanted me to buy him a drink, I told him to fuck off. He challenged me one on one or something like that, I again told him to fuck off, so he attacked us and Sulik riddled him full of holes with SMG. Then we went to her mother Tandy and did some quest for her, for which we got a big reward so we could get better equipment, after which we stopped sucking in combat.

Blowing up the outhouse in Fallout 2.

Screwing up the Gizmo quest in Fallout. I remember that I got the quest to record his words from Killian, to prove that he's corrupt. When I went to see him and he told me to sit "my butt down" I couldn't resist saying that "Looks like there's enough butt down there already" or something to that effect. He wanted me to apologize, I told him to fuck off, he attacked, I killed him with my combat shotgun, which left a hole through his gut and chair. Afterwards Killian was angry with me for killing him, but it was too fun.

Killing almost everyone in Junktown since some gang objected to me trespassing their territory. Eventually almost everyone turned hostile to me and I had to slaughter almost the whole town.

The first time I got captured by supermutants in Necropolis and taken to the Army Base.

Death animations and the sound of corpses dropping to the ground in Fallout. Dying of radiation. Exploring the Glow.

Fuck. I now feel like reinstalling Fallout and Fallout 2. Playing them ranks among the best memories from my mid-teenage years (15 - 17).

Robbing the bank in Wizardry 8.

Killing everyone in Erathia in MM 7with my evil party and treating the royal castle as a dungeon to loot. Did the same thing with my good party too, before making the choice between good and evil.

The first time wanderin into the Smouldering Corpse bar and the Brothello of Intellectual Lusts in Torment. Talking with Ignus about his past and his insanely awesome killing spree.

The process of discovering the Iron Clan in Arcanum and getting the mechanical dwarven armor.

Hearing about Stringy Pete pissing on the altar in Vooriden, hilariously blasphemous.

Killing the king of Caladon just for the heck of it, didn't save the game when I did that though.

Meeting the real Stillwater giant in a "random encounter" after meddling with the Stillwater giant hoax.

The process of learning about T'sen Ang.

Randomly discovering Kerghan's lab behind the Stone Clan halls, which I also randomly discovered while exploring the mountains.

Discovering the truth about Nasrudin and his divinity. Also the speculations regarding him in Caladon's Panar'rii Temple, before discovering him, the stuff with his skull and how he isn' buried below Caladon.

Starting the prison riot in Hammer & Sickle's demo.

Exploring Dwemer and Daedric ruins in Morrowind when I wasn't very familiar with the game.

First time in the Urshilaku Burial Caverns. I remember that I was playing it late at night and at first thought that the corpses sitting on the stone pillars will come alive and attack me.

Once in Kogoruhn I couldn't kill the miniboss there so I tried to run away from him. Had to jump over lava in one spot, he died when he tried to pursue me and ran/fell into lava, was very satisfying.

The first time I had to go to the Ministry of Truth with my Nord and ended up slaughtering all of the ordinators. Mehra Milo didn't want to talk to me since my reputation was too horrible for her, after killing all of the Ordinators and getting a massive bounty. Teleported out of there and continued to play on as an outlaw avoiding and/or killing the guards, since my bounty was so high that they would attack me on sight. Since I couldn't get Mehra Milo to talk to me, I eventually had to revert to a much older save.

Exploring the Temple Sewers in Tribunal ( I love sewers and they were very atmospheric). Finding Sotha Sil in the state he was in.

The first main story dungeon in Arena. This is the moment that showed me that dungeon design can be brilliant. I remember that I couldn't kill some of the enemies, so I had to avoid them by levitating, was super happy after finally getting out of there with what I needed.

Finally beating the combat where you fall down and have to battle shitloads of Gnolls in the Mountain Pass in Knights of the Chalice.
Finally beating Icarus and Kessa after countless reloads.

The fight with the other group of adventurers in Baldur's Gate in Helm and Cloak inn (I think it was there). Eventually beating the obnoxious mage in Cloakwood mines for the first time. Gnoll Stroghold has always been very satisfying for me with every character in Baldur's Gate.

That's enough for now I think.

Leaving Privateer's Hold and fast travelling to the city of Daggerfall. Particularly if you arrive at night and hear "vengeance" for the first time. Bethsoft's crowning moment of awesome.

I second that one. Running away from his ghost outside city walls while mounted on a horse, after arriving back to Daggerfall from some timed quest at night was pretty memorable.

Oh, yes! That was a good one too. And in the same building I found Baldur's Helm!

And first location where you meet Elminster, when I found ring +1 in stone. And when I found best ring for a mage under a tree in Candlekeep.

PST: Too many to count! Excluding the combat sections, this whole game is filled with defining CRPG moments. Ravel. TNO. The Civic Fest Hall Sensorium. Doing quests to obtain my first spellbook.

VTMB: The entire Jeanette/Therese questline. Also, Bertram Tung and speaking with everyone in The Last Round for the first time.

Fallout: Conversations with the Master and Lieutenant. Fighting The mother deathclaw. Gizmo. The Brotherhood of Steel.

Fallout 2: Conversations with Myron, Harold, Marcus, and The President.

Daggerfall: Privateers hold. The King of Worms. Arriving in Sentinel.

Morrowind: Meeting Vivec. Meeting Dagoth Ur. Reading through the contents of the entire Vivec library just for fun. Finally defeating Umbra. Being mystified and completely scared as I ventured into my first Daedric ruin. Solthseim. The daedric ruins beneath Mournhold, Norenen Dur. The grand stair.

Damn. I need to replay some of these.

The scene in KOTOR if you're dark side and you command the wookiee to kill the 14-year-old girl --, uh, what was her name? For all the bad shit Bioware has given us, that really threw me for a loop.

Finding the Iron Clan in Arcanum with Magnus and Loghain in my party. Awesome shit.

Opening a chest in the queen's bedroom in Might and Magic 4, getting attacked by strong-as-fuck guards, fleeing the castle, levelling up elsewhere and then defeating all the guards.
Also, Barkman in Darkside of Xeen. His whole dungeon was rather awesome, with how you had to use teleportation to get all the stat-raising potions.

Killing a bunch of hard-as-fuck enemies in Dwarf Fortress adventurer mode, throwing shit at them before engaging in melee, abusing every possible tactic, achieving glorious victory but being heavily wounded...
...and then dying because I step into a fucking trap. Good times.

For me it was especially awesome since besides having both, Loghaire and Magnus in my party, my pc was also a dwarven techie, hence it was truly a moment of epic dwarven win.

Come to think of it, Loghaire Thunderstone was a really cool character.

Getting caught by the Lady of Pain.

The first hour of Gothic 1, trying to figure out the controls while being chased by scavengers, getting to the old camp and feeling part of the world. Seeing my first shooting star. [...] Running from a pack of wolves in the woods, at night, without a torch and leaving a trail of blood behind me. Hanging out in the new camp with my brand new blue armor. The first stalk of swampweed.

Gothic 2 : Going back to the prison colony. I guess I really like Gothic 1.

Fallout : Killian Darkwater frowning.

Gothic I was very good, but there were no single particular best moments, at least not that I remember. Just a very smooth general gaming experience.

Defeating the mountain stalker in Dark Sun's arena for the first time. 'till today I still can't remember how I did it.

Getting my ass handed to me in KOTC demo. A fuckin' demo.

And I vividly remember a moment in FO2 when I was in some town, lockpicked a door for an eternity and when I finally got it open, out comes a deathclaw. And all I had was a shotgun.

However, I can't seem to remember where it is located anymore. Scouring through walkthroughs and guides don't show me anything. Which leads me to a conclusion - it must have been a dream.

A dream of me playing Fallout 2. Imagine that.

Arcanum - Virgil abruptly leaving the party to walk over and visit a grave. And then when you follow him and initiate conversation, he refuses to tell you what the hell he was doing.

That is in Modoc, the 'chickenshed' behind the bed and breakfast.

Fuck... so it's real. Now I gotta reinstall FO2 and relive that experience. This time, an unarmed specialist.

From PS:T:
- discovering that Morte hadn't told TNO the entirety of what was written on his back
- discovering near the end that not only Morte, but also Dakkon, knew exactly where the door to the endgame/negative plane was, and was keeping silent about it, hoping you wouldn't rediscover it.
- end dialogue with TTO
- dialogue with Ravel, confirmation of the building suspicion that TNO's curse was to cause misery to all around him (with Ravel listing the specific miseries inflicted upon his companions...except for FFG, whose is revealed at the end if you party lives).
- Morte's response to you attacking the black abashai as a low-lvl character (You know I really don't think this is a...ah...you know, don't mind me. Some lessons are best learnt yourself.)
- much of the brothel of slating intellectual lusts

From Deus Ex:
- ICARUS HAS FOUND YOU........
- 'I now have access to all your primary systems'
- 'Consider how you disobey the arbitrary rules of the current governing system' (from Icarus as you pick some civilian's locker)
- Realising that you could kill Anna instead of the rebel leader (in the days before everything was spoiled in the pre-game hype)
- realising that you could save Paul by staying and fighting.
- most interactions with Walton Simons and Gunther Hermann (I am not a machin.....[explosion])

From Wiz8:
- robbing the bank
- eventually beating that fucking hard (but optional) lich and undead encounter

BG2:
- leaving the starter dungeon and going 'holy shit....so.....much.....content......'

AP:
- agreeing to side with Leland, killing Mina, then betraying Leland;
- different playthrough, getting the knowledge to skip the Parker fight.
- Brayko
- finding the 'Heck kills Scarlett' and 'Mina kills Scarlett' arcs;

FO1:
- the whole open travel with a time limit system
- conversation with the Master
- the Glow

FO2:
- killing the slavers

BG1:
- stealthing through all the city maps with Coran using boots of speed, necklace of fireballs, gauntletts of strength (for uber backstab) and a stealth-boosting item, while leaving the rest of the party behind, so he could speed-loot all the buildings and everything else.

Wiz1:
- finally getting the fucking 'traps and teleports' level fully mapped. Modern gamers have no idea how hard that shit was.
- finally getting characters up to the requireents to be Lords (never did work out the requirements to get a Ninja when I was playing that game - I was a young kid at the time, in all fairness, but they weren't stated anywhere aside from the 'must be evil' requirement, and I tried a lot of combos of good stats and class histories).

Wiz4:
- beating the game without a walkthrou....hahahaha who am I fucking kidding. I never came close.

Ultima 2:
- getting a ship for the first time (I was 8 and easily pleased, and getting a ship is the first big step on the road from fodder to character-that-can-survive-to-the-endgame).
- working out the main method of successfully stealing a ship, and blowing fuckloads of guards to bits with my canons on the way out of town (again, see above).
- putting in a random set of co-ordinates the first time I got the rocket working, and finding the 'special unmarked planet', despite not having ever gotten the info/clues to tell me which co-ordinates to put in and landing it purely out of luck (it's a 3 digit coordinate)

Finishing the tutorial at the start of Morrowind, and realising there was a huge expanse of land to explore, with hundreds of quests.

Becoming a Jedi in KOTOR.

Killing Master Vrook in KOTOR 2.

Binding Death's Hand in Jade Empire.

The Hotel in Bloodlines. In hindsight I know it is a pretty poor rip-off of The Shining but at the time I was actually quite frightened; something I haven't been in any other video game. Also, the encounter with the werewolf on top of the mountain was one of the most atmospheric moments I've had in an RPG.

Final mission in Mass Effect 2.

There are others but those are the ones that spring immediately to mind.
