What do I need AppLocale for?

Without running it with a Japanese local set, some (minor) untranslated stuff and a few misc. characters ends up corrupt or ugly. Its not huge though.

Is it really necessary? You can install and play the game perfectly fine with just that patch, and AppLocale installation is kinda wonky in systems newer than XP.

Getting the jap language pack is probably a good idea though, depending on the OS.

Yeah, it works for me too on Windows 7 64bit, but I had to mess around with permissions a bit before it would install. Specifically, what let me install it was placing the installer in the root system partition directory and running it from a console, with the console itself run with the administrator privileges. There may be some other way, but this was the first combination that worked for me, so I didn't look any further.

I installed the jap language pack but still get some thinks garbled up. Perhaps a reboot will help.

Anyway, game's great. Rance is becoming a hero of mine, gyahahaha. This is the first Japanese product I actually enjoy.

It's a pity you never get to fuck her. I stopped playing after realizing all the time I'd wasted trying to woo her.

You sure you can't fuck her? I got to the point at which Rance went "She doesn't love me but she didn't say that she hates me so I still might fuck her" or something like that. I took it as a direct hint that she's fuckable.

If you're reffering to numbers showing as symbols then I have something that may help. Just replace your original file with this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/400903400/rance7.ain.html

Then again, it may not help at all, so obviously make a backup. I have no idea where I got this file or what it does, I just found it in my patch folder and I seem to remember it helping me in a similar situation

I'm sure you can clear her character with nothing more than a topless scene from her, so yeah, the odds are pretty steeply against it.

Is there a web page where you can watch all the sex/nude/rape scenes, with all the fuckable characters in that game?

Yes there is but...

Half the fun is knowing that your actions brought about their rape, though.
...this is correct.

Yeah, this may be it, but I think it helped me even after using the 1.01 patch with this subpatch supposedly integrated already. I dunno, it's still probably worth checking out if someone's having troubles with numbers shown as symbols - it may help, and if not then reverting the change is trivial.

Well, for me, without setting correct locale, the game wouldn't even install correctly. What is more, from experience, sometimes appLocale may screw the whole installation (game won't run) - though it seems pretty random. Still, it works perfectly when S:Rance is already installed.

It's better idea to do as GarfunkeL said: temporarly change your system locale to Japanese, install using the patch that Whiskey and Random Lurker provided links to (have the iso mounted, then launch the patch - it will install the game already patched), then revert to normal language configuration.

If any of you guys keeps having problems with garbled text then start the game through appLocale - there is an option to create "localised" shortcut.

Works fine for me :)

You don't need appLocale to install the game, the patch does that.

In some rare cases (unlucky me) it is required - otherwise you may get various errors - usually typos from what I hear - but in my case the game wouldn't start - it turned out the patch installed around 300MB (with full install enabled, without and with appLocale) instead of 1,97GB.

Solution: Switched to Japanese locale. Performed installation, switched back ordinary configuration - saw garbled text - launched the game through appLocale - saw it works - made localised shortcut, ???, profit?

I'll leave that here just in case anyone comes across similar difficulties.

Guys, if you dismiss commanders be sure to sell their troops first. I had assumed the game does that automatically, but no. Not doing that makes you miss out on some pretty penny.
