A few amusing /v/ posts.

Someone should inform Boeing that planes were invented in sold in 1900s. Dumb Boeing wastes billions on researching something that is done long time ago.

Both are pretty dumb.

First one is arguing that if something is invented then there is no point for researching it further.Dumb Boeing spending billions on researching something that Wrights had in 1900s.

In second case, hard part is not to know the password, but to find the dial and to realise that you are supposed to do something with it.

No, the argument is that CIT should have known that Artificial Intelligence was a reality because it predates the bombs by a couple of decades. They should have known that machines can be living, thinking things, and with the right body have plenty of agency as a person. There's an entire Galleria in Fallout 4 that's run by Mr. Handies and Mr. Gutsies, and while they are following the letter of their programming they all have some actual personality quirks. Those were models that are commonplace before the Great War.

Carrying the AI issue even further, the Institute denies the personhood of synthetic humans, even though they know for a fact that their intelligence and senses are all perfectly modeled after the baseline human form. There's nothing distingushing the 3rd Generation Synths from natural born humans aside from the fact that they were assembled in a factory bone by bone, tissue by tissue. In spite of all this, nobody seems interested in the ethical issue until the player character shows up, and Father still insists that the 3rd Gens are machines, even though he's grown up alongside them his entire fucking life and knows for a fact that they're just like people. They make fully grown adult human beings from scratch, yet still deny that they have personhood or even real intelligence.

Was CIT saying that AI was not a reality? Point is that difference between AI and AI can be as big as between 1900 plane and 2000 plane. Or between NV C&C and F4 C&C. There is always a space to improve. Or degrade.

Carrying the AI issue even further, the Institute denies the personhood of synthetic humans, even though they know for a fact that their intelligence and senses are all perfectly modeled after the baseline human form.
It's stupid, but humans are used to see even other humans as things and property.
Said that, I miss ability to reply to Shauns "we made them, so we own them" line by saying "I made you, so I own you".

I think the game is good if you just want open world, like GTA or Skyrim or something. A lot of players here call it "hiking simulator" but it's a popular thing. They did throw out RPG things. It's funny to see people justify it or excuse it. YOu know they're just being fanboys. With modding they might be able to "fix" some of the RPG things, but it's definitely sending a message out to the world that strong RPG features are being thrown out in a major AAA title which was traditionally for RPG fans.

I'll admit I like open worlds. I'd take Far Cry 2 over Far Cry 1 or 3 because of that. But that doesn't mean I excuse what they did with Fallout 4. They're gutting its RPG systems in favor of hiking/sandbox, first-person shooter and modding.

If this is an RPG then they're being redefined.

I don't think this is going to just die. Look at Diablo 3. Same thing occured with it. People saw large differences between Diablo 2 and 3 and were unhappy. What happened? Path of Exile happened. Indies will do what AAA's won't.

But I DO antiicpate modders trying to make FO4 more RPG-ish. I just don't see that as the final answer. There're too many traditional RPG fans as well! I actually feel optimistic because I feel indies are more than capable of this.

EDIT: I could complain about the UI too. A LOT of people are saying FO4 has consolitis. Things like: 1) Can't reset some of the hotkeys 2) Mouse moves too fast or weirdly 3) Buttons which do multiple things. But the thing is I've read FO3 suffered from many of these problems too, so it's not a signficant change.

Ugh, finished, 80 hours playtime on very hard.

Gotta admit, for the first 40 hours game sucked me right in. I spent the last 40 being just about ready to be done with it. That's Blehtesda's old gig - overwhelm you with content so it takes you quite a while to realize how pointless, shallow and retarded most of it is.

I wouldn't say it's worse than F3, I was bored with that game half as fast. At least F4 had its moments - first battle with a Deathclaw, the arrival of Prydwen, tracking the crashed alien, a good lightning and atmospheric effects now and then and a few others. But just a month ago I played Wasteland 2 DC and there's no doubt in my mind which game is the rightful Fallout successor.

PS, I quite liked New Vegas but right now I'm not sure if I'd play a F4 offshoot by a modestly competent developer again. Feeling pretty tired and disgusted with this whole franchise.

I thought the Prydwen was cool, but completely out of place in a Fallout game. Then there was the dream-surfing sequence in the cyberpunk bar where in the end you see that the Institute has teleportation and I finally accepted the fact it's not the same universe anymore.
"Wouldn't it be cool" design has taken over and now the whole 50s tone is all over the place or gone. Soon enough they're going to run out of excuses to give Bethestards for not having vehicles. Or worse, they'll add vehicles. That will be the final blow, I think.

So from what I'm reading here, Fallout 4 is basically what would happen to mankind if there was a nuclear war, and the only people to survive it would be Bethesda?

I can't believe whoever designed the "emotionally engaging" intro sequence completely failed to recognize that the first thing the protagonist would want to do is bury their dead spouse.

It's almost like Todd & Friends are having these game design meetings where they are going like "I bet we can do something THIS retarded and mainstream press & average gamers still don't see anything wrong with it!".

They're a big Kwan dev, ofc they're all chummy with the mainstream, mostly Kwan press. If a game this aged, ugly and buggy came out from Europe, let alone potato Europe, everyone would be constantly mocking the engine, the animations, the VO etc.

One of the reviewers even said something like "yea there are a lot of glitches but hey, a Bethesda game without bugs wouldn't be so cute anyways". Nuff said.

Soon enough they're going to run out of excuses to give Bethestards for not having vehicles. Or worse, they'll add vehicles. That will be the final blow, I think.

Fallout 5 will be basically Mad Max with Ubisoft style "RPG" elements and more glitches and I'm not even joking that much.

Speaking of Fallout 5, are there are any hints in FO4 about the series' next location, the way the Commonwealth was hinted at in FO3?

There's this mini-game:

That's San Francisco, Seattle, New Vegas, Mount Rushmore, Boston, St. Louis, Washington and New York.
Out of the ones above, and assuming there could be a hint in the first place, only Seattle, Mount Rushmore, and New York haven't appeared in a Fallout game. I don't think they'll make Fallout: South Dakota, so we can rule that one out.
San Francisco is more heavily mentioned than the rest (so far, at least), as it appears in Kellogg's memories. I think that's a strong candidate if Obsidian gets another shot, even if it was in FO2 already. Seattle is more in line with the Bethesda locations, but it's also much less iconic and smaller than the rest. St. Louis sounds more like DLC material to me.

Personally I think Bethesda will finally make the move to New York. They've been using increasingly larger territories, but New York is by far the absolute largest. I suspect the devs themselves must get excited with the idea of making Fallout in NYC, and since they can only make TES or Fallout at a time, if they don't it in FO5, they must think perhaps they never will. I mean, at this rate, Fallout 6 will come out in 2024-25.
There is no hint like the Replicated Man quest in FO3, though. All of the factions mentioned in the game so far are already known or from the Commonwealth alone.
