This is really awkward to watch. Like a hobo grabbing at people's purses near police station.

Wow, thank you for this Information.
Makes the Butthurt of Bonescraper even more amusing.
not really. the thing they altered drastically is adding details to the underside while the top still mostly looks like a triangular wedge. what makes bonescrapers butthurt amusing is the fact that he loves the viper, which looks nothing like the vipers in the originals.
the design of the Equipment and Ships was always subject to changes.
the designs changed marginally. what you are asking for is the equivalent of starfleet cruisers dropping nacelles and saucers all of a sudden.
I want to build up on your Anaconda Example again.
So, even the Designers of E:D don't shy away from modfying old designs, there is no hardwritten rule of "no Change", despite These ships being supposedly "iconic" by design.
So, if they Change a few, why not do the same with the rest, at least in a way that makes them a bit less shoeboxy?
but they are changing most of them. they are just changing them to still be in line with the general elite design principles and aren't touching the most iconic ships like the cobra, asp, or sidewinder all that much.
your argument basically boils down to "i don't like the design direction so they should change it drastically, because fuck elite fans", which you try to hide behind a bullshit argument about technology, in the same vein retards would argue against turn based combat in rpgs.
bulky designs are part of the elite setting, deal with it or play star citizen instead.

WTF. I'm perfectly aware of the changes. Pretty much all ships have been altered visually. I think the Sidewinder is the least altered one, as it only gained the canopy. And i think they did a great job on all of them so far. They managed to maintain good balance between the oldschool low-poly design, modern 2014 graphics and futuristic aesthetics.

The Viper still maintains it's arrowhead shape. It's not like it became some godafwul F1 racing car/F-14 hybrid.

No, my Argument boils down to "i don't like the design direction so they should Change it if they want to cater to my tastes".
I'm absolutely apathetic to what Fans think, since i'm simply not connected to the series in any nostalgic way.
Plain and simple and i see no Need in playing the "noo, it's not about my personal tastes, its about the holy Spirit of the game design and my sacred objectivity" Card that a few Ragefags here like to play because someone dared to not like their current nostalgia-target.

And no, the Technology Argument is a whole different playground and a simple Counter to this bullshit "muh blocks are teh realisticness" as an argument.
Fuck no, they aren't, they are on the same bullshitlevel as Paycitizens Toyships because the whole idea of dogfights in space with lasers and maybe even ballistic weapons is unrealistic from the beginning.
That the whole bullcrap is super FUN though, is again a totally different Story to be told.

Point is, if there is no realistic approach anyway, at least make them look good/interesting.
Worked perfectly well with Eagle and Anaconda, thats why it's annoying me that some of the others look so incredibly bland and boring TO ME.

so, given that the game was funded be elite fans and should carter to their tastes, and not yours, you are arguing about absolutely nothing, or just for the sake of arguing then?

I'm having too much fun with Wasteland 2. Experience the adventure without me, brothers.

Also, topical:

Bah, as expected. Can't play anything else than tutorial missions atm. There's probably too much people trying to connect at once. Anyway, the improved ship UI looks sexy. And they added SMAA, so i can finally get rid of the jaggies. I'm too damn sleepy, i hope i'll be able to connect to the game server when i wake up.

I didn't have money to pledge for beta access, so everyone else, have fun. :salute: And test the hell out of it, I want a perfect game when it will be released. :D

Am I seeing it right, the joystick is modelled after the Saitek X52? Cool.

Is it just me or do the starport hangars look considerably brighter in those screenshots? Not complaining -- It seemed a bit strange that my ship was parked in a gloomy half-lit bay when people were loading/unloading hundreds of tonnes of gold. I hope there'll be some proper vanity cameras so I can view my starship and inspect the (A)wesome battle damage when I'm docked.

I think you're right. The entire insides of starports seem to be brighter now. I'm undecided on whether it's a good change, too much brightness and everything can look flat.

What do people think of the changes to the flight model? I expected the max speed changes with flight assist off but have they also made some changes to lateral and vertical acceleration? If I remember correctly flight assist off used to allow for high acceleration too which might not be the case any more. I've not really tested anything because I have the galaxy map bug.

Here's one of the developers explaining the flight model changes:

Gods, everyone's so defensive about this game. What happened to discussing the merits of specific feature implementations? It's as if everyone with a critical eye is just dismissed as a troll or hater, because everything in the game is perfect. Wtf is this shit?

I made a comment on the appearance of a UI element which bears significant similarities to that of X Rebirth, which has a UI that is terrible in every single way. The good response would be 'yes it does look similar, but it's better because blablabla'.

That's because you are talking gibberish. As I said, the only similarity is that they both have a menu sideways, every other part of the UI is different.

Just for comparison:

Ah, I was probably being too vague. I did specifically mean the 'sideways screen' since it was in reference to that screenshot a few posts up. And also because that was the worst part of X Rebirth's UI, and Elite's sideways screen looks disturbingly similar in both appearance and functionality.

Well yeah, the sideways screen is similar looking, although as I see it, it functions much better than in X:R.

Certainly hope so, just never been a fan of the 'UI as part of the game world' idea. It might look fancy, but it makes it needlessly uncomfortable to read and manipulate, especially when you're trying to do something in a hurry.

not a fan of the side screens myself. there's no reason why they couldn't have been a toggle on the main view.

To its defence, the functions you use in that view are not functions that you have to reach immediately, in a combat for example. It's navigation, subsystem optimization things that you do when you have time for it.
