I don't get why codex loves Elex so much. The combat sucks. The quests are all fetch. They literally exist to burn tiem and distract from the bad mechanics. The story is bad.A lot of talking going on, no one talks like that and shares their lifestory on first encounter. Man, like reading a book the never ends and goes nowhere written by a 3rd rate fantasy author. And this goes on an on an on an on. The people in this game are all hit by an ugly stick, no cute waifus anywhere to be found. It's buggy. I was playing the game on easy and died at lest 70 times over stupid stuff.

Why do you all love such an obviously shit game?

It is very mediocre. Though mostly not for the reasons you mention. Looking for a quality story in Piranha Bytes games is on par with seeking a chicken with a pair of boobs. Futile and your dick won't be getting erect anytime soon.

Cause its an open-world rpg
Elex is a prime reason on how to botch your initial formula and do the concept of an open world poorly. It was too big for its own good, it lacked actual variety and uniqueness and overall felt very generic. Risen and Gothic 2 are the standards of quality. Hell, you could make a far better case for Gothic 3 as well, because of its atmospheric, sublime qualities but Elex falls short in nearly every single department of open world.

I wan't want to love it, but it's just a boring game. Have started multiple times, but it just don't work for me. It's the setting/world.

EDIT: typographical error

ELEX is more of a local meme than anything. The only good thing about it is the traditional free-form world design (go anywhere, when you want), otherwise it's pretty shit.

ELEX feels janky, console UI, outdated graphics, bland factions and mediocre MMO-tier crap loot. A 50€ mediocre console RPG that would have been shat on and torched under normal conditions (if not for the post-Renaissance drought).

ELEX has top notch exploration and only falls apart at the end, but then every PB game does that.

The weird post-apoc modern world fantasy hybrid setting helps in making it interesting, and exploring crumbled ruins of brutalist concrete buildings is very cool. The jetpack makes exploration even cooler since you get to do a lot more vertical exploration. In many places, the level design makes good use of verticality to encourage the use of the jetpack.

Good game.

This also goes for Gothic though. PB has never made a good game. They came very close with Risen 1.
