And all the gweilo rejoiced. They've apparently dropped the numbering on this one AND there's going to be a "nameless protagonist" we get to play as rather than typical Kingdoms pick-your-character approach. Spin-off game?

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is being developed by the fantastic team at Omega Force, a team that is poised for a fresh start with this game (complete with new logo), and we’re out to prove with Origins that we are not only going back to our hack and slash roots with the type of action our fans crave, but we are here to redefine expectations! I am certain that in this game, we will deliver a most excellent experience that we were not able to accomplish in the series until now, carving out a new history for both Dynasty Warriors and Omega Force!

Since Dynasty Warriors 2 (the original Dynasty Warriors was a fighting game!), the roots of this series have always been based around the “sense of realism on the battlefield” and “the exhilaration of 1 vs. 1,000” gameplay. In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, we will return to these roots to deliver this non-stop action to not only our most loyal fans of the series, but to all game fans worldwide. In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, we’ve been able amplify the feeling of tension on the battlefield while also being able to deliver the epic sense of exhilaration after overcoming the odds in the most thrilling warfare we’ve ever been able to create.

To achieve this, we’re making the most of the PS5 hardware specs, creating an all-new Warriors-like battlefield where you’re challenged by massive armies as far as the eye can see! With the overwhelming number and scale of enemy armies pushing towards you, you’ll have to act fast and with force if you want to survive. In addition to your own striking power, you’ll need to coordinate with allied armies and enjoy the tactical aspects of gameplay in order to take out the hoard of enemies in our most tension-filled fights to date.

This image shows the nameless hero on horseback, surrounded on all sides by an army, charging towards a castle in the far distance.. This image shows the nameless hero on horseback, following a legion of soldiers as they race through the castle’s interior. Just in front of them, some of the castle’s battlements are crumbling after being the focus of an explosion.

An original protagonist appears

But that’s not all, as for the first time in Dynasty Warriors franchise history, we will depict the chaos of the Three Kingdoms from the eyes of a ‘nameless hero’. Play through the historical tale of war through the eyes of our new protagonist, showcasing the vast land of China and its timeless soldiers and generals like never before!

Stay tuned for more information in the coming months as we reveal more about our new nameless hero and his fight for the Three Kingdoms before Dynasty Warriors: Origins is released in 2025.

A new logo!? Holy fuck, the innovation is off the charts!

The craving of the fans is simple: don't make it shit like 9. You only have one job.

the roots of this series have always been based around the “sense of realism on the battlefield” and “the exhilaration of 1 vs. 1,000” gameplay

Nothing tops the sense of realism when you impale 1000 dudes with ease, but then have to run away from Lu Bu.

In addition to your own striking power, you’ll need to coordinate with allied armies and enjoy the tactical aspects of gameplay

What they mean by this is that from time to time you'll have to drop what you're doing and head to the other side of the map to help your useless allies from getting roflstomped.

well, it's LU BU. i mean if you ask me "what is dynasty warriors" running from lu bu literally first thing i would think, even before "killing billions of chinese". shit is traumatic.

his daughter tho

You know, I think playing the Broodwar maps based on dynasty warriors kind of ruined the series for me, in retrospect. Like, killing hundreds of dudes and fighting duels with enemy generals is always going to be fun, but something about having a proper bird's eye view of the entire battle, being able to pan over to other parts of it on a whim, and seeing everyone else around you also actually fighting instead of doing the DW thing where they just kind of stare at eachother... this genre just fits better in an RTS. I think it also helps that when shit hits the fan in another area you have an organic reaction and debate whether or not to abandon your area to go turn the tide elsewhere, instead of the very scripted nature of DW battles where you just have to go for a walk to make the doors open.

I'd kill for a more freeform version of the formula, where instead of doing the scripted events you can just actually trying and break down gates, climb walls, etc. Something between DW and Mount and Blade.

Some interesting stuff in here. Story starts before the Yellow Turban Rebellion, younger looking characters, JRPG-style overworld, etc.

Tried the demo on normal difficulty and yes, this might be the much needed recovery from DW9. Possibly because they put you in a heated battle where a lot is going on so you don't have a slow introduction. I'm actually confused how someone not already familiar with Musou formula is expected to survive this. Good thing is you do get to choose from about four weapons and three familiar support characters you can switch to for limited duration. Smooth as hell performance as tested on 3060 Ti and this actually feels like a proper next Musou game. Keep in mind it IS just one battle, though.

Looks promising from the gameplay footage. Hopefully it has good missions, and not the retarded 'spend 80% of your time riding back and forth across the map not fighting shit' design they seemed to like so much for a while.

Seems impressions are positive across the board, even long-time fans are saying that even challenge wise this harkens back to DW3.

Hyped af, gonna try it out.

i'm glad i'm not the only one recognizing 3 as the best game, despite the fewer features. as far as i remember, it's the last one who requires the player to have some skill instead of just grinding levels and spamming supermoves.
