may we number the times Funcom has fooled people through PR spamming and knitting?
i would hold Tornquist's statements with quite the grain of salt, at the very least in regards to the new Suckfall being PC/Mac only..Here's a snipet just days shy of Funcom's announcement:
"the company's studio is working on unannounced tablet and smartphone games, as Funcom looks to enter the mobile games sector"

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/..._Secret_World_Beijing_studio.php#.UQJ05WeheLw

Normally one would expect various phases of production for various titles, granted, it could be 2 different things, but in this context? Do be reminded that in a matter of days they will -only- have one studio (following the second lay-offs wave). They will be understaffed, even more so than now, with past obligations still hanging, in all 3 of their online games. Makes you wonder just how many balls they can juggle, especially if you believe that their unannounced games are products other than Dreamfall..they can barely cope with supporting their existing ones..here, have a taste of how things stand in AO, if you have any experience of it, the following are quite telling:

" New Player Experience
This is close to done. " (as it has been for about 1 year now)

" Engine
This will not be able to happen over the next couple of months given the restructuring process, so what happens with the new engine and the timeframe will depend on the priorities of that team ... The details of the restructuring are still being hammered out, and this will impact the production schedule. " (as it has been for about 4 years now)

http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?t=603567 parentheses mine

(you will find similar delays in scope and timeframe in AoC as well. They are about a year behind in their proffession revamp. It had to have happened 'yesterday', as it makes the game's economy stale, and the gameplay (as they envisioned it but never accomplished it since they launched) shallow and end-game focused only)

I just assumed that was a continuation of the trolling?

Incidentally, TLJ's graphics hold up quite poorly. I just did some image searching, and the textures look like generic stock phototextures and the models have a bit of that look to them, too, though I imagine they were all made just for the game. The composition is pretty spotty, too, with some of the foreground colors much too saturated for the background. (I say this as a non-artist; maybe I'm out to lunch.)

When it's rendering man-made spaces, it's not so bad, but the environmental graphics, more than anything, remind me of freeware adventure games made using a mix of Poser and Bryce.

[EDIT: Here's an example of a freeware game with a similar art style:

It's funny, because I remember thinking the game was really beautiful when I played it. Just further evidence that 3D graphics don't age as well as 2D graphics.

I have to disagree with you MRV, I think TLJ though dated still shows great art direction.

I think the art direction is pretty solid, but I'm not sure the actual execution holds up. I'd really have to replay to judge though.

I think MRY has a point. I played the game much later and at the time it took some getting used to the graphics. I liked them, but they did seem dated. It certainly hasn't aged well.

It still aged better than Dreamfall, though.

It looks old, but it doesn't look bad. It retains the sense of wonder that it had in 1999.

Also you have to trick anti-aliasing into working or the characters look like shit.

You know MRY is the developer behind Primordia, and not an "alt retard" you fucking idiot, right Jaesun?

MRY is right, The Longest Journey while still aesthetically appealing does not hold up well today. The jaggies on the character models are not pretty to look at, unlike Grim Fandango which didn't suffer the same problems. It doesn't mean it is not a good game, just that it no longer looks as wonderful as it did at the time.

I was specifically mentioning MRY?

Because I wasn't. You really should just stick to GD hon.

6. Shitposting: From time to time, we get users who, upon review of their posts, it is discovered that they have not really added anything of value to the Codex. Their posts are typically only ever in GD and their few forays into the other forums provide little insight or opinion. It's not surprising to find these users often spend all their time complaining about other users rather than debating or discussing actual issues. We define these people as Shitposters and we define their posts as Shitposting.

Jaesun's just butthurt because his beautiful ideal of "2D hand drawn art" turned out to be pre-rendered 3D.

It was even funnier in that IE thread in GRPGD, where a whole bunch of people had their worldview shattered by the revelation that IE games had pre-rendered backgrounds too.

Pay 75$+ so that you can play it on release date and not have a artificial waiting period to play like the lower pleb tiers? :greatjob:

I'll pass on backing it, just not feeling any excitement over it

I guess I'm glad I never got far in the first game and played it after the second one as it let me actually enjoy the second one. Sure the story went to crap after a while in the game and the ending was one big wtf, but just checking out the pretty fantasy worlds they were living in was kinda awesome.
Same here, I played Dreamfall first and liked it, then tried Longest Journey and kinda "forced" myself through it. The hipster-ish appeal and all that "art student" crap, which was thankfully lacking in Dreamfall just wasn't for me. xD

Kinda thinking of backing this at least at the base level. And I'm pretty sure this'll make it :P

and crap music. :P

Fuck you! That was the award-winning music of Dreamfall.

And if any of you don't back this, you will go to hell. It looks glorious. Who cares if it is not 2D if it looks good? And it looks great, it is a proper point and click game (don't listen to the fags, it will be point and click).

Then I guess I will be in hell. At least I'll have to wait until I die instead of suffering hell on earth playing this game knowing I have contributed to its creation.
