I hear it sold poorly, though.

800 000 in the first week on consoles, PC reporting is more complicated because of digital distribution.

Steam listed it on 62 place, and after I looked at few sites around, it list it at 17 place, thus who knows. If it will hold at least two other weeks, it's massive success (at least on consoles).

Wait.

Isn't this some 19th century era of muskets and sabres and whale hunting?. What is this 21st century prostitute doing in the game?

Low-brow pandering dumbasses. I though the setting was meant to be well done in this game

That's just the number of people playing on a given day. It's currently listed as 5th in terms of sales revenue (ahead of even Borderplands 2).

Steam's top seller list is not a straight up rank in terms of units sold, it has some element of time period in it. How many daily deals have we seen reach the top 1-5 spots then disappear from the ranks hours after the sales end. Who knows, BL2 might have sold way more copies total but it is not selling at quite as high a rate currently. I wish they would make sales figures more salient but this would probably make some ceo somewhere piss himself in fear of shareholders so it is not going to happen.

Not really. The setting, while realized visually in an excellent way, is very vague as far as details go. It doesn't have a lot of coherent history, there's little explanation given for the technological wonders, the whole magic/religion stuff is completely unexplored other than that it exists, etc. The setting is basically entirely superficial, cool-looking and initially interesting but with nothing underneath... no way would I call it "well done" considering how much better other games have done (even Derp Ex: Human Derpolution is miles ahead in terms of providing a plausible and justified world).

I don't remember anybody criticising that in this thread yet. Considering the setting was what drew many people in, that's pretty surprising. I really have to stop expecting accuracy and observation from random Codex impressions

Gone through the Golden Cat so far. Not a bad game but I'm definitely feeling bad for blowing $40 on it. Maybe I'd enjoy it more if I stopped trying to sneak and just went around murdering everything. The few times I've done that for shits and giggles have been more entertaining than my sneaking.

Finished it without killing anyone.

Some tips: keep dark vision up for crowded areas, when 2 guards are near, slow time is enough to take out both. Sleep darts are 10, but this is enough for tricky takedowns (also can be used to take out guard who is looking at door entrance, which you are about to enter = peak, shoot and he will sleep without noticing you). Possession also makes target loose your track + opens up for choking out.
Also potions are enough, dont horde them, having around 3 is enough for any tough encounter.

Finished on very hard, difficutly was just right.

Plenty of backstory in books (i need count but i think around 80 of them). You are just not given "whole story", you need combine it yourself.
Also plenty information on religion/magick.

Though i still wonder who is Outsider. He looks like only god in universe, but not good or bad one.

There is *some* backstory. The problem is that it doesn't really seem to have any direct influence on anything you see in the game. Stuff about other nations, about the world at large, about whaling, etc., it's all there, but it it doesn't do a good job of answering questions like "why are things the way they are now?" A world with magic, totalitarian governments, etc. demands that certain points be addressed. I don't think Dishonored does that well enough.

Plus, there's also the fact that while as a world, it is visually interesting, it doesn't really have anything interesting to say. As I've mentioned, comparing it to Deus Ex directly might be unfair, but Dishonored isn't really about anything at all, which makes it fall flat for me. The cheap storytelling hooks they use (lol your girlfriend got killed/daughter got kidnapped) isn't enough to push me through the game, either. Having a voiced protagonist to voice the player's questions and concerns would have really helped here, but instead Corvo just silently goes along with everything.

Also, with all the talk about whales, they really should have had a level that took place in a giant whale carcass or allowed you to harpoon one.

Greenpeace would have a seizure. Then it would go ballistic.

The game is a 20-hour lecture about why whale hunting is bad (even though they are possibly baby Cthulus). The harpoon would be optional emotional engagement.

Every time I think about playing this game I just look at some pictures/videos and feel a bit nauseous and shake my head. I quite liked HR for what it is and this does look better. I don't know what it is. I'm doing the same with FiraXCom. I actually quite like some fast-food popamole from time to time. Or thought I did. Maybe I'm finally cured. Which is good, but makes me a bit sad :(

Uh... Did you play blindfolded? There is one at third last mission.

Also, did anyone manage to deduce what exactly (or who) was the heart of the living thing?

I don't know, on the one hand I think that they created something fairly unique in todays market, with some heartblood in it and all, which is something that should be rewarded.
On the other hand, with all the missed opportunities, it just doesn't look like I should spend 50 bucks on it. I could probably get it as low as 36 even, but I guess I'll wait till it's 25 or less.

Incidentally I bought XCOM for 32 on saturday (wouldn't have bought it for 50 either).
