I found it funny how he said they didn't have a clue how to run a buisness and they did pay taxes and had to let themselves be bought by Blizzard to be able to finish the game.

D2 was lightning in a bottle situation for most of these guys, all their other games and even the LoD showed they didn't understand what people liked in the game. 1. He had nothing to do with the original Diablo which was the best.

2. Diablo 2 was the beginning of the decline, so technically he is responsible for all of the franchise's failures.

Just to confirm the game really did fry my GPU. Fortunately it had warranty and they replaced it but damn, it seems they fucked up badly. Never happened to me before.

No game or program can fry gpu. Your gpu was at fault.

Usually what tends to happen is that most of games don't actually utilize most of gpu. Game is either rop bound, memory bandwidth bound, shader bound and other conditions which make gpu run at 100% but not really.
If game comes that actually is well balanced engine wise in all aspects then you get true 100% utilization and this is where faulty gpu can "fry itself" as its fault was hidden by simply gpu not being used in full.

Kind of how CPUs 100% in your game has nothing on AVX512 100%

Either way your gpu bios should have seen temps getting too hot and switch off gpu first if it was poorly cooled. If temps were ok for it then some other part of gpu failed that would fail either way.

Yeah in most cases when a GPU "fries" itself in my experience it's not the cores, but the memory modules. They often don't have a lot of attention to durability, and have no or cheap heat dissipation, which leads to problems under stress. Some particular cards were notorious for this, or particular variants whereas some other aftermarket variants would be very chilly under the same load.

Back in the day I used to swear by MSI having really nice heat dissipation designs, but I have no idea if that's held up over time.

The game is far from dead though. The combat is top notch and if or when they get the multiple damage systems balanced and a proper endgame built this game can become a real beast. Call me fabulously optimistic but the solid foundation is already there. I just don't see this game failing.

Base gameplay is great but the build aspect of gameplay just sucks. The fact that games has only handful of uniques is only more salt to the wound as they base stats on items also aren't great.

This is improvement over D3 but it is far from D2 superiority.

Why is it so hard for Blizzard to take D2 itemization and stat gameplay and get D4 graphics and animations...

If you listen to the aRPG roundtable, the Diablo creators consider PoE to be a spiritual successor to Diablo, rather than D3-4. Max Schaefer even thanks Chris Wilson for "taking on the mantle" (at 11:25).

You mean at Moon Beast? AFAIK, only Erich is there, and while he is Chief Creative, the game was in dev for 1 year without him, by the dudes who headed the D2 expansion.

Maybe you're right, because they've shown combat skills greatly altering the terrain, but I'm not sure the design goals align with the interests of the original Diablo creators; they weren't there to set the direction of the game.
