Pathfinder: Wrath
Also 8 in Helherron

I never played Wizard's Crown but I read that it inspired a bunch of these CRPGs to use 8 player characters, unfortunately this kind of game died out.

Wizard's Crown and Eternal Dagger are damn good fun. Tactical CRPGs tend to be the best.

Realms of Arkania lets you field six + 1
Ultima 4 requires you to have eight to represent the virtues and Ultima VII will let you field eight if you put them in the right order.

I just slept with a bunch of goblins and orcs all in the same bed. KOTC 2 is like that. Age of Wonders 3 is pretty cool as well.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is. Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire Pathfinder: Wrath I'm very into cock and ball torture I helped put crap in Monomyth
The Age of fear series allows for rather big parties.

There's this, but it's more of a tactical rpg.

The last Remnant is a JRPG, but it's pretty unique, and a very fun game. You can have up to 18 units inyour party, even if they are not acting individually.

I had a high charisma Arcanum playthrough where I had 8 characters + mechs. Combat turned into just flipping on real-time combat and letting my army maul the enemy.

A game that tried LotR party size was... LotR (Interplay, part 1 in ~1991), had a party size of maximum 10. You could take the pony as the 10th member if you wanted but also an additional character (there were several npcs to recruit).

Edit: LotR 1991 has the biggest party in a game that is, without a doubt in my mind, a crpg (a weak one), after Jagged Alliance 2. Some games with more than 8 party members were mentioned in this thread but for me most of those aren't crpgs in the classic sense. Plenty of crpgs with party size of 8 of curse.

Expeditions Rome might have been neat with an active party size of 8 instead of 6. Then the shield wall mechanics could have been deeper and formations would have been viable

Wish Vogel would have kept the 6 format.

I almost want to do a spreadsheet on this.... almost. Sometimes it depends on the computer/console as well.
