Dungeon Keeper 2 - If you play past midnight on your system's time, you will get the voice line "Your nocturnal perseverance has earned you a hidden gaming tip: GO TO BED!"

In Dungeon Keeper 1 the dogs will bark if they hear heroes digging close to their position. You would never see this on the campaign as dogs don't appear in any map where that can happen.

I like how Tomb Raider II moves underwater vertices to simulate refraction from a wavy water surface without pixel shaders.

Grass blades bending away when you cast fireball or other explosive spells in Neverwinter Nights was really cool.

Replica soldiers from FEAR have a shitton of context based quotes.

Edit: Also completely forgot, the amount of details Sims 2 had that are missing in the later games.

A minor one from VtM Bloodlines that I thought was cool. In the beginning of the Grout mission you can look around and see other houses on the hills, and lights from cars driving on the freeway. It gave a nice sense of showing that you're still in Los Angeles rather than some lone creepy mansion in the middle of nowhere.

Was impressive to see your legs in Tribes 2
Tribes 2 (2001) vs Tresspasser (1998) :smug:
No match for legs

Oh - and I was always a sucker for atmospheric sound effects, so a good example was in Mafia 1 country mission during a rain - you could hear rain hitting roof and it was muffled when inside houses and stuff. Here's a video

EDIT: Also - interesting thread with potential!

Nice had forgotten about Tresspasser.

And Hidden & Dangerous 2 which is by the same developers as Maifa and using the same engine also has superb sound production. The mission with the shootout in the Church in Mafia sounds awesome with EAX turned on.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
Psychonauts 1 - Raz is at a summer camp with a cast of ~20 other kids.

Raz can use every PSI-power he has against every kid - and get a different response from each, for each.

Better yet, Raz also has an inventory of items and can show off some of his stuff to the other kids - again, each kid has a different response.

One of those items is a late-LATE-game item that's obtained in the final room, and is supposed to be carried to the other side of the room to advance/complete the game. Nope, the game offers the opportunity (though never explicitly says so) for Raz to take this vital late-late-game item all the way back to the camp, to show off to the kids.
