Whole lot of generic buzzwords in those posts but...

Casey Hudson was around when Bioware was actually good, so maaaaaaaybe it was the faggot corporate culture that ruined him after EA took over. Not really holding my breath though.

Anyway I guess we will see if they ever actually make anything.

It wasn't.

Anytime someone starts questioning if it was actually all EA's fault what happened to BioWare they should just remember this interview Greg Zeschuk did after he left BioWare and could presumably talk shit on EA if he wished.

Q: Do you feel that BioWare's games were ever made to conform to some homogenous EA standard with things like forced multiplayer, micro-transactions, smart phone spinoffs, etc.? Did any of this make you jaded? Or you reject this notion?

Greg Zeschuk: No, I definitely reject it. And I can explain it too. The best analogy I use, in a positive way, is EA gives you enough rope to hang yourself. It was really interesting because we really made all the choices we wanted to make ourselves; these are all things we wanted to try. And that's something to remember - while we were independent we didn't have quite the resources we had as part of EA, and then we got to EA and it was like "wow we can do all this stuff." We had to be really thoughtful about what we wanted to focus on.

I remember this really distinct moment where - it was probably five or six months - we were just starting to wrap our head around how we worked with the company. And it took months for this formal period of joining EA, and learning how everything works, and when the initiation was done, we were sitting around asking how do we do stuff. It dawned on us, you just do it. That was the biggest revelation, that rope that EA gives you; they don't second-guess you, they don't say you shouldn't do that. We had complete creative control over a lot of it; some fans didn't like some of it and some of it was experimental, quite frankly.

The one caveat is at the end of the day for any company you have to run a profit, so you have to be thinking of things that actually make you profitable. So while you're taking all these creative risks in trying crazy stuff you almost have to simultaneously focus on the bottom line. The top line is not enough. In some ways, being independent I would say we had to be more conservative - being part of a big company, you could be more aggressive and try stuff. I think that's something people [struggle with] when they join EA; they do too much or they do too little.

They did what they wanted to do under EA. Even when I look at something like Anthem, (which seemed to be like some dream game of Casey Hudson's...that he left while it was in development) it seems like a pretty natural extension of things they were trying in their Mass Effect games. And they've been interested in online stuff since before the EA deal.

So the guy for responsible for Bioware's last few years is starting his own studio. You'll have to excuse me if I don't gaf.

Mr. Hudson created the Mass Effect franchise, didn't he?
He's probably the reason that Shepard is a collar-grabber maverick, but he didn't do the world-building.

Even before this new studio he's on record saying he wants to make things fun and cool in the mold of Top Gun and other 80s franchises he grew up with where the protagonist wears a leather jacket.

Without his influence, Mass Effect would probably have looked a lot more like Andromeda. If he learned any lessons from ME3, this new studio could do something worth playing.

Hudson should team up with John Romero and Cliffy B for the ultimate "who gives a shit" dream team

I have no idea how desperate do you need to be for RPGs, to get excited for mister "I wrote ME3 endings, and was proud of them".

Wasn't Anthem his vision at the start? Citizen Kane of games or whatever. I'm not optimistic about his vision for the "future of interactive entertainment" :P

Earlier today, we informed our staff that Humanoid Origin will be shutting down. Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations. We’re heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion. Our main concern at this time however is for our team, and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment. In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it's possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage, and friendship. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our journey.

NUMBER #1 sin of being WOKE is being hilariously incompetent. It's retarded strain of Evil. That's what makes it so amusing when it fails, and that's why We gotta win. We can't afford to lose to retarded evil, Broes. Can't wait for based and good Mass Effect-like alternative. It won't come from Bioware, just like new Elder Scrolls-like won't come from Bethesda or Gothic-like from Piranha Bytes. There are already few indie attempts at it

/Thread unfollowed. Got my chuckle. Moving on...
