Haha, it's just like I thought.

"Oh shit, we're out of money."
"Quick, come up with another kickstarter, and namedrop a bunch of games people love! Final Fantasy Tactics!"
"Put a goal of $725,000; we'll surely get 5x that amount, right?"
"Hey, Quirky Man! It's your job to make a bunch of annoying as fuck retard smile photos! Make it a viral thing; people love that kind of goofy shit. It won't annoy anyone."
"1.2 million? Oh, fuck."

Well I guess they already sort of had a Broken Age Humble Bundle... I guess next will be Humble Massive Chalice Bundle.

I'm sure they did that because they ran out of money. All the Humble Bundle promos so close together scream desperate reach for cash.
They never told otherwise. They said that the Brutal Legend PC version and the Humble Bundle were means to get additonal funding.

You're supposed to be ignoring me.
I did until yesterday. But after unignoring Skyway (I had to because I can't see a thread he made if ignored), I thought to myself, I can take this guy with his charming attitude.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
This eminent lack of business sense is a good argument in favor of suits and publishers.

I'll be 50 by the time that happens.

I'm not even remotely close to 50 now.

Double Fine is an artist heavy company, hell, I bet most of their designers and programmers were artists first or also.

To say I'm disappointed in the latest events would be an understatement. I backed this game, and I have the right to regret it.

As much as I love and respect Tim, he has shown that he is utterly incapable of maintaining scope. To ask for 400k to make a game, receive 725% of what you ask for, and then say you ran out of money (despite other funds coming in) and now you are going to sell half a game to get the money for the rest of the game is either incompetent or fraudulent.

He can apologize for his eyes being bigger than his stomach, or whatever euphemism he wants to use, but it's still disappointing.

AND.....

I was already disappointed in the direction the game was heading with the story and art style. I feel like he deliberately tapped into the love for DotT and FT to get people excited, but then is preparing to deliver whatever the hell Broken Age has turned into.

Bleargh, at least inXile seems to be on track still.

I'm not sure why you guys think there's something wrong with the development. They got money from Kickstarter, then they came up with ways to get extra funding. So?

We wanted them to implement RMAH and we are sad that they are letting such a good opportunity go to waste. When being retarded they should to it in style, none of this half hearted crap they keep pulling.

(Real answer: based on their pitch, people were expecting a different game, something more akin to DotT or FT than this quirky children book illustration game, and now they feel lied to and betrayed, so they give DF fewer breaks than they would give to say inXile. The fact that DF have without a doubt mismanaged the production, put aside more money than the original $100K toward the documentary, have started another vague KS while their first project was in financial dire straits and other various little thing do not help. TL;DR people are angry that DF are not able to make a $300K game with $3M)

What's with the outrage over the art and game style? DotT was based on Warner Brothers cartoons. What did people want?

I, and probably a lot of people, had anticipated a retro throwback to the 90's styled Lucas Arts games. Those kinds of games are still made, and they look infinitely better than ugly 3D rendered shit in my opinion. That's really a minor point in this whole debacle at this point, though.

Do you mean a "throwback" in the sense that you want it to be in 320x200 resolution?

Doesn't have to be, but I do like that art style. Even the recent Larry game style would have be preferable to me, but that's personal preference.

Grim Fandango was released in 1998. Psychonauts in 2005. The increase in budget was widespread among AAA games in the early 2000s. That said, a smaller company could make a Psychonauts level game from less than 13 million. Maybe around 6-8 million.l
More like "$296,360"

Yeah, let's just not compare this to Psychonauts. This looks and sounds far worse than DF's game. And looking at the videos, it plays worse.
