I suppose I did sound like a graphics whore when I said that. I just look at Tim Schafer's previous stuff and it had so much more charm visually then this garbage. I would rather they had done something like the HD re-releases of Monkey Island 1 & 2.
I think lots of people complained about the graphical style in those too, though.
I did, I did! :) Old pixels where way coller than modern take on them, especially on MI 2.

All and all I like the Broken Age artstyle, but I'm worried that it looks too "serious", it clearly shows how Tim is an older guy now... Grim Fandango was already very mature and grow-up compared to previous adventure titles, but this one seems a bit too much, like a father doing a game for his daughter...

Really? i've just felt the opposite. It is a little childish IMO. Of course all we've seen is 1 minute from the game, it might turn out a *real* Double Fine game.

Nothing wrong with Pixels either. to this day I'd say this is still my favorite adventure game (was the first one I played) Would love to see something like this.

I think the phrase felipe is looking for is "less adolescent".

That's the point bro, is childish not in a Monkey Island kind of way, where you fight with insults and make fun of pirates with tons of witty jokes, but in a "I did this to my daughter" kind of way...

Maybe... Full Throttle and Brutal Legend are clearly "adolescent" games, and I think games like Grim Fandango are more of "young adults" game, with all the jokes about work, social life, politics, etc... but this game is like a "full-grown man with family" game... I'm not sure I like that.

I tend to agree that this game has this "I did this to for my daughter vibe, but I hope it won't like that in the final game.

I still like the art style, I still dislike the character concept as I did from the very beginning, I think I would've even preffered hipster lumberjack over those. It's sad because they even had some better options available to pick from (but apparently he let his daughter pick some characters :Dwhich would also fall right in line with being the other concern about the game which I've already brought up a bunch of pages ago: http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/inde...ter-adventure-game.69252/page-13#post-2486676 )

I think it'll end up being funny though and that might offset the rest.

Oh, also Part 2 is up on GameTrailers: http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/32a0wa/broken-age-the-reveal---part-2

I was hoping this would be a retro throwback to the SCUMM days. This art style is just... uh... it's something alright. It looks like a bad copy of a Tim Burton animated film.

They were very upfront about it from the early beginning that they wanted to make an Adventure in "Nathan "Bagel" Stapley" art/direction.

A poster by the guy was also included in the KickStarter rewards and I believe he designed the KickStarter Logo itself:

I believe it's just a case of different expectations. :P

Hm, I like the background art a lot, not crazy about the character designs still, but they've grown on me a little. Adventure games are a genre where I'd actually say graphics *are* kind of important, given the visual nature of the puzzles, and the fact that a lot of the enjoyment is extracted from discovering and exploring new environments.

The art itself looks good.

The problem is the characterization, which I believe is what some people are disapproving here.
Faces on the sun, cereal bowl, snow mountain... kind of make it look childish.

Not a big issue for me until further notice.

Well, that teaser trailer didn't do it for me.

Hah, spot on! That's what I thought exactly, too :D
Yeah, I got this impression too. Let's hope that's not the case.

The Monkey Island remake was just a piss-poor, cheap-as-shit vector trace with unfathomably bad character design. It's the worst thing that has ever happened, other than your birth.

Broken Age looks like a Nathan Stapley painting, which is exactly what they said it would look like. I don't like the "paper doll" animation, but it looks nice in stills at least.

It occurs to me that the only difference between a publisher and a backer is that when backers tell you your creative vision is bad and your game is stupid, you don't actually have to change it.

Everyone always thinks they know better than the guy making the game, doesn't matter who they are.

Lame excuse for dishonest behavior.

Most backers pledged based on nostalgia and the slim chance that they will get a game in the vein of an old LucasArts adventure game. And that's what they should get.

Instead Tim Schaefer is doing some shit for his daughter. And he is free to do it and you are free to lick his balls. But cut the crap with the moralizing shit. The entire affair is a scam.

And I get the vibe that Tim Schaefer hates PC audience. Or at least he doesn't give a shit about the PC audience. For example, the first version of the game was demoed on a fucking tablet! Instead of "point'n'click", they are more interested in comfortable controls for a tablet.

Everything is fucked up about this project. They should take a look at the Shadowrun guys and maybe learn something.

I would rather have something that looks vaguely like a Lucasarts / Tim Schafer adventure game then this shit. Thank you for registering to provide that sick burn. Since we're talking about Hitler it might be worth mentioning that your opinion and existence are worth somewhere below the fecal matter they found pooling in his pants after he shot himself to me.

Hmm, I'm not sure the adventure gaming crowd has ever been into PC elitism in the same way that RPG fans are, though.
