This idea that the xbox 360/ps3 era was some sort of golden age has to stop. That was the era of no good RPGs, the worst popamole, the rise of the bland Ubisoft checklist game, the boring "cinematic" shit like Uncharted, motion control shovelware.
The "PC gaming is dead" era.
I know it's been long enough that nostalgia has reared it's ugly head, but trust me, that's all rose coloured nostalgia. It sucked.

Probably the worst era for the FPS as a genre too. And arguably graphics in general, given how bad the de rigeur shaders and post-processing effects were.

Also significant in that it marked the beginning of the end for games as physical media and the death of console convenience. No more disk in and play, here's a 500mb update on a 2007 home broadband line, fuck you.

Probably killed proper QC testing for the same reason, why bother if you can just patch the bastard post launch on all platforms. Which has now evolved into fire out a half-broke turd then get the morons in with an extended support schedule and superficial updates a la No Man's Sky or DayZ.

FPS genre was at its peak in the 90s, early 2000s, then it got hit by the console and other trends such as regenerating health.

I did play quite a few titles on the PS1, also some on the PS2, but it was really nothing compared to the PC Master Race ones.
Consoles are just not worth it, to be honest.
