Currently playing through rally evolved for the ps2 and loving it. There is just something about levels in rally games that makes the levelfag in me smile even though i am not a general racing fan.
So what are your favorite rally games?

I don't know how much nostalgia or the fact that it was such a big deal at the time factors into my feelings for it, but SEGA Rally still hits the spot for me.

I really enjoyed Colin McRae Rally 2.0 on the PS1. Only played others briefly.

Was really impressed with the physics in that game. They way different types of roads felt, and the destruction.

oh....my wrath is righteous...
Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2.0. Simple as. The sense of speed and weight those games manage of capture is simply unmatched. Some contrarians would argue that they are not "real sims" and the latest WRC games do a better job at being a faithful simulation but who TF cares about realism as long as it feels good and is exciting to play. To me the DR games are a perfect continuation of the classic CMR series.

It was a pretty big hit for its time. Still a great game today.
Colin McRae Rally 2.0
I couldn't believe they packed so much detail in the tracks for a ps1 game.Fuck Italy though.
Dirt Rally 2.0
I really hate how large the game install size is.It is the primary thing stopping me from replaying it.
Death Rally
Never been a fan of top down racing games.

I keep it installed because I have the space, but the truth is I fire it up about once a month for 30 minutes. It's just that, as you say, to uninstall it and reinstall it is a pain in the ass.

Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
Sadly I haven't had the pleasure of playing more recent racing games (read: released in the past 30 years) so I'm missing out.

I played the heck out of the Carmageddon-games, but they don't exactly focus on the racing.

My only recommendation is Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off-Road Racer.

Unironically 'art of rally':

It can take some time to get used to, but the flow you get once you do is unique.

(Try to find settings you can tolerate and stick to them, don't fiddle around for a 'perfect' set up.)

BTW rallying has support in assetto Corsa with last CSP patch.

Rally stage game mode in content manager and gravel physics and tyres. Also car and track rally mods starting to appear more and more.

For what I tested gravel is not as good as RBR or Dirt Rally 2, but tarmac is amazing, as it's to be expected from AC. But I expect gravel to improve and AC becoming the main rally simulator.
