Azgaar is a pretty robust map generator for planets. There is an offline and online versions. You can use either random generation based upon map seeds or design the entire thing from scratch. It does support exporting to svn, jpg, png, json, and map formats. You can use the json file to import into QGIS and other GIS editors.

Here's an example of what you can get from the map. Below is the map for my setting book.

It has a ton of features like cultures, states, biomes, temperature, etc... For map generation you can specify various things like map template that has shattered, volcano, two continents, and the like.

thanks for reminding me of this, it's pretty cool. quite configurable, free, open-source, actively developed and not dead, different views for the map (political, terrain, etc)
