Didn't see a newer thread since the official Asheron's Call shut down in 2017.
Anyway, I barely started playing this game recently and it's surprising me how good it can be. For those vets of the game, are you still playing on any private servers?
I just started on the SeedSow server, and I recommend it to everyone starting out. Community is really relaxed and friendly, and the server eases new players in since it is based on an older (classic) version of the game which doesn't have all the min/max or custom content bloat that was later added.
For those who have never played, AC has a very old-school RPG vibe to it. The graphics and world honestly reminds me of M&M 6-8 and the dungeons have a very classic/maze-like aesthetic to them. Best part of the game IMO is the loot system which uses heavy RNG and has a huge variety of things to find. The skill system is very open-ended. You can pick and choose the exact build you want to have and don't worry so much what starting race you pick because you can cater any of them to your own taste. Just pick the one that looks the coolest and run with it.
Anyway, here's how to install:

If you're new, don't worry about the optional "Decal" addon. It adds more UI features that's best suited for players who have got the hang of the game like this seasoned fellow.
