Are a lot of developers actually using this forum? I kinda think that could be bad for publicity and/or mental health
Most devs are cured of openly using this forum after interacting with codexers like Worster, only a few mad ones shitpost like the best of us

It says something (bad) about the codex that I'm probably the most active dev account here.

At least, the one stupid enough not to use an alt.

Why not? Ehhh, this is the Codex. The whole point is that barring true extreme cases there's no moderation here. There'll be always some autist/troll who will bug the dev in question just for the heck of it. I still laughing sometimes at the fact someone has told to Sawyer "go away, faggot" (and he went!). For any dev there's a requirement to have enough of thick skin in order to be here. That shouldn't be changed. Besides, this one says himself this shit allegedly amuses him. Yes, I'm talking about you. Get back to work on your stupid engine you lazy cunt!

That's not a really healthy environment, though. Sublimating your social ineptitude by being a tough guy online does not lead any community towards something good. But this site has enough people who actually enjoy videogames and have knowledge about them that they share, and this forum solely relies on them. We can say thing like "oh, this is just for shitposts, we don't take this place serious", but if only shitposters that spew nonsense will be left here, this place will die

I see you don't get it but please, for the sake of the argument, tell me: what do you suggest, exactly? Who shall be the one to decide who is a shitposter and who isn't? And what to do with them? By the way, complete fringe shitposters get banned here, FYI anyway.

Bitch, you don't even see half the forums, which include the 2nd and 3rd most total messages.

There's many places like here on the internet, I'm not suggesting anything. As long as people still actually talk about games here, not just regurgitate USA culture wars, all is good

Maybe it's the secret of Codex still being one of the few place where people still actively discuss computer games, because most outsiders get into closed forums where they can spew their bile in a safe–space environment? It was silly of me to suggest there could be an alternate approach when this forum's one clearly works.

It would be nice for developers to have threads about their games for direct interaction, but currently I wouldn't advise to do this, unless you're that fringe that affiliation with people with unhinged worldviews (no matter if pretended, or, God forbid, real) won't hurt your publicity/sales

You serious? Do tell.

The problem is that "culture wars" are intertwined with gaming industry for 10++ years by now, good morning. And there's a very few places out there where you could actually discuss that, to my knowledge at least.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
It's quite amusing to watch people who have absolutely no way of knowing about internal affairs of development to always have crystal clear idea or opinion on them and selling them to others as facts. No pun intended to neither of you guys though. I guess it's human nature after all.

I came here to answer some questions for those interested, and I'll continue to do that if the interest persists. I reposted one screenshot that was actually originally posted by our CEO on Twitter just so that those few interested wouldn't miss it. I'm not trying to sell you anything. Truth be told, I give two shits whether you guys ever buy our game or not, I'm getting paid anyway, and quite handsomely if I may brag a notch, so your attempted uncovering of my hidden motives and evil plans for world dominance are a bit absurd from where I'm standing. But feel free to continue if you like to waste your time, as I said, there's at least the amusement value in it.
Keep poasting. Game looks cool and the dev process is interesting even if the JRPG stuff isn't for me. Plus I enjoy watching Bester's 3 paragraph meltdown seethe poasts.

See? This is what I actually like about this place. Hell, this is Codex, busting balls 24/7, even I, greenest of the lot, would expect nothing shorter of that. Codex has always had this reputation. If I wanted to avoid that, I wouldn't have come here in the first place.

JRPG stuff isn't for me
I can't go into much detail but I'll say this - we're not married to anything yet.

Something about the way he does highlights makes everything feel very flat, or maybe it's the color palette. Still, it's fantastic work.
It’s a combination of lower contrast, brownish palette, and the lack of grungy noise that added texture to the original FO look. Crank those up (you can easily do it with ReShade), and there you go:

Anyway, screens look cool because R888 is incredibly talented, but I’m looking forward to hearing more about the systems and the game part.

What game? So far there is nothing. It's a vaporwave.
Well, I guess you are entitled to your opinion, even if you know absolutely nothing about the matter. Maybe this might come as a bit of surprise to you but the world actually doesn't spin around your head and the fact that you have not seen something yet doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But please, do keep trying to convince me otherwise.

Yeah for me my main issue with JRPG style combat is the removal of space as a factor. I think the spatial element of cRPG combat is more important than anything else.
I agree with you and this opinion is very vocal on a team. Again, I can't speak of details but let's just say things have been moving positively in this regard.

I agree with you, but there are enough people who actually enjoy videogames and have knowledge about them that they share who also enjoy the atmosphere here that changing it would likely kill this place. Look at the number and quality of posts at RPG Watch if you want an idea of what it would be like. There's always the ignore function, too.

You newguys need to understand that Codex is only Codex because of the unfiltered environment that exists here. To say that the environment isn't "healthy" is to miss the point. What do you mean by healthy, in the first place? A calm environment? No offenses? No arguments? That it is moderated and controlled so that conversations are productive? The fuck is this shit?

You don't want Codex, you want Reddit. Go there and see the result of that.

Don't get me wrong, there are times when it's a bit tedious to deal with some idiots here. But dealing with idiots is part of what develops your resilience and ability to deal with people with different (and sometimes even stupid) views. The world is full of retards, after all. Codex is only what it is precisely because it lives on the edge, because it has this environment where people are free to express themselves. It is in this environment that you can put your ideas on the line of fire. You need to be able to handle the negativity of the world to be able to find the best it has to offer too.

If you are too fragile to handle this kind of place, then this is not the environment for you. But you only find the level of discussion that exists here precisely because people are free to express what they think the way they think. Yes, one of the side effects is having to deal with a dumbfuck here or there, but that is still absolutely superior to any kind of moderation that prunes expression and homogenizes and dilutes the environment. It's no coincidence that the greatest works of art and the best games were created in extreme situations with intense pressure, because that's the kind of environment that forces you to be the best version of yourself: stoic, stronger, confident, and more capable.

As has been said, there is the ignore function. If you are old enough to be on the internet, be mature enough to make your own decisions and choose how and with whom you interact, without relying on the moderator daddy to decide for you what you can or cannot see.

This makes me happy to hear. The teaser combat style just felt it really didn't fit in well. Really curious what you guys will come up with. Hopefully it's also stays close to fallout on that front

You are supposed to answer him by showing actual gameplay. No one is going to give you the benefit of the doubt. We've seen so many projects from people who only had cool ideas on paper and a few renders.

Remember the game Bourgeoisie? You can probably find the concept art on NMA. It was a promising Fallout clone that ended up as a crappy first-person shooter. There are so many Kickstarter scams, especially when it comes to RPGs. After the debacle of Realms Beyond, I’ve decided never to give my money to any indie team on Kickstarter again.

On this forum, you can even find discussions about some 8-bit C64 game—I forgot the name, and it doesn’t deserve remembering—that cashed in on old nerd nostalgia. Yet another kickstarter scam.

Even when, by some miracle, a Fallout-inspired clone gets released, it’s rarely stellar. You get trash like Krai Mira, or okay-but-not-quite-there games like ATOM or age of decadence, which are still far below Fallout’s standard. Then there are disappointments like Encased, which falls off hard after the first act.

Right now, you’re still at the stage of “guys with cool ideas on paper.” Unless you have alpha keys for us to try, you’re not convincing anyone.

I'm not supposed to do anything, except for keeping some basic professional decency and not sharing internal material from my employer without permission.

See, that's where this construct of yours falls apart - I am not convincing anyone of anything.

While all of this is true, I see nothing wrong with discussing ideas, especially when accompanied by stellar visuals. Unless they're asking for money, I see no red flags here.

I mean, I've been working with Unity for about 8 years and there was always some sort of friction. I've also never met a dev who wouldn't experience such friction in Unity. It's a general-purpose engine, its submodules are designed certain way and despite the best effort, it's impossible to cover any and all use-cases devs face. I was told by other devs in NB that along the years, they even tried to get source code license from Unity on several occasions but, well, Unity's financial demands were quite... unholy, to put it lighly.
You're so far removed from the pussy, you don't even have friends who've seen a pussy? So you decide that women aren't suited for your needs and become a homosexual (build your own engine). Frankly, it's very telling that you've somehow come to the conclusion that writing your own engine is cheaper than dishing out $100k. This only happens if you (specifically you) cost nothing, because you're such an indie bum without any meaningful experience (despite 8 years of dicking around). This explains everything actually.
Using Unity is like paying a whore, having own engine is like having a girlfriend
