No, that means they're known, not popular. It's like Rey: Nobody cares no matter how much marketing they throw at it or how many popular franchises they hijack because there's nothing interesting about them, no matter how hard Disney tries to tear down the original to make their replacement look good. Nobody gives a shit about Miles at all, and nobody gives a shit about Gwen Stacey as Spider-Whateveritisthisweek aside from the porn.

Jessica Drew literally exists as a character to keep a trademark active and out of anyone else's grasp: There's a reason she's just a random Avenger instead of a book lead. Madam Web (Julia Carpenter) is, at best, NPC plot device character and not someone that's interesting to follow as a hero.

You’re fucking retarded if you think all those people in love with Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse don’t like Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey.
Or I saw that people went crazy for the glorified cameo of a character who was in a one-shot+a few cameos in a terrible event while completely ignoring the lead character (there's a reason she's already in this game). Nobody gives a shit about Miles outside of woketards, even after Disney has spent billions trying to get people to care. Even the woketards don't care about him beyond the checkboxes: If they did they'd have noticed his family was waving the wrong flag in his game before launch.

Yeah, I get it, you’re a moron. You’ve been taking too much culture war bullshit up the ass, it’s back up into your brain, and now you can’t even think anymore.

The Spider-Verse movies, which aren’t made by Disney, are extremely popular movies. Miles Morales and Gwen Stacey are the lead characters in those extremely popular movies, and because of that they are both now popular characters.

You’re bring up the comics but here’s the thing: Nobody gives a fucking shit about the modern comic book industry. Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen can suck a dick all day long in the comics and it doesn’t mean shit because nobody reads the comics. What they do, do however is watch those Sony CGI movies where they’re main characters. If those movies didn’t exist, and those characters were purely comic book characters you’d have a point; but the movies do exist, so going on about some comic event is just fucking stupid. It’s like if today someone said Jeff the Land Shark is a popular Marvel character and you tried to refute the claim by talking about the comic nobody cares about when the character’s popularity comes down to being a character in Marvel Rivals.

Saying Disney spends billions on trying to make Miles Morales popular also makes you sound like an insane idiot. How much do you think they spend on comic books? Marvel Comics as a whole cost Disney nothing. It’s probably why Marvel Comics are so shit, their operating cost is so little they aren’t even worth Disney and Marvel Studios paying any attention to. I’m almost surprised Marvel Studios and Disney don’t just license out the comic business like they do video games to publishers like Penguin Random House, Abrams Books, and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions’ VIZ Media by now. Disney also is not the one fitting the bill on the Spider-Verse cartoons or the Sony Spider-Man games.

AFAIK Disney has pretty conspicuously not spent ANY money trying to popularize Miles Morales (I don’t follow the MCU, but I don’t think he’s even been cast in it? Maybe name dropped?) and I think they’ve gotten some guff from people about that.

Miles Morales isn’t in any Disney produced movies that I know of. But then deuxhero seems to be that special kind of stupid that thinks the main character in a movie that made $690.8 million isn’t a popular character because woke.

I’m not even sure what the “Disney spends billions pushing Miles Morales” is even meant to be in relation to. Disney doesn’t fund Sony’s Spider-Man video games... which make money. Sony pays Disney to make those games. Disney doesn’t pay to make any Spider-Man movies, even the ones connected to the MCU, those are Sony productions.

It’s not a stretch to say he’s popular, he’s purely popular from spiderverse a non Disney production mind you.

In fact, Disney would be on the side of most miles haters anyway Disney HATES it when something they own gets a popular version under another company.

Again, well known and in popular media!=popular character. By that logic all the Disney Star Wars characters are super popular.

Two lead characters so popular that the cameo outshines them and attempts to put him in his own game sold like shit for their budget (the Insomniac leaks show it wasn't a cheap standalone expansion in budget, but something like 75% of a new game, because western game devs are retarded).

It sounds like the Seattle “Game Director” was more a producer, while the actual Director of the game is the guy you see in Marvel Rivals update videos listed as the Creative Director of the game. I wouldn’t be all that surprised if there were a number of teams like the Seattle team working on this, and every one of those teams had someone with the title of Game Director.

It also sounds like the Seattle based team was a small studio of six people that mostly worked on R&D stuff.

Hearing there was a Seattle based team working on this does make me wonder if they’ve got an responsibility for how some of the new Marvel Rivals designs have extra material where the comic costumes done. Like the Malice costume in this game has a boob window that’s blocked, which isn’t something they did in their Super Wars game. Although their Super Wars version of Dagger doesn’t have the cutout part of her costume either, then again, that seems to also be a current comic book thing too.

Honestly feels like a bad decision on their part. The money saved by firing the 6 people are really not worth the PR damage.

But China has always been dogshit at PR so no surprise

I don't care, but "Chinese megacorp fires poor white western developers for a game that breaks all kind of record" is shit PR in the current world

The "poor western devs" need a lot of PR themselves before people starting giving a fuck about them again.

I hit GM playing support. Was a support player in OW.

IMO this game is not as fun as "peak" Overwatch, but it's definitly better than current day OW so it has to do to scratch a bit of that itch as there's nothing else around, I guess.

They fired an american team that from what I heard was responsible mostly for R&D during the game's development. They probably deemed them not neccessary anymore once the game was launched and let them go. Maybe a sound decision from a finances standpoint, although not necessarily the most just/fairest one.

Bear in mind netease is a chinese game developer. They don't really follow western gamedev rules, as evidenced by the female characters design:

They’ll be OK. Despite the media spin trying to make it sound like NetEase fired the main development team and actually head director of Marvel Rivals despite the game being what would appear to be a gigantic hit, they couldn’t even get all of ResetEra to be pissed off about this news. If this news isn’t generating a thread over on ResetEra where everyone is pissed off about it, the average Joe John Q. Public regular gamer playing Marvel Rivals isn’t going to give a shit.

The media tried to spin this as 'even successful devs are being laid off', 'we need more unions/regulations' and 'China is pulling out of the US due to Trump'. It was an absolute clownshow.
