One of my favorite underrated movies (which some might argue is terrible) is The 13th Warrior, where Antonio Banderas (Spanish) plays a Moor who falls in with a group of Vikings, several of whom are played by Irish and Germans.

In that vein, one of my favorite computer games of all time is Conquests of Camelot, where you play as Arthur and travel through various parts of Britain, then Gaza, then Jerusalem.

I feel like if it is done right, cross cultural stuff set in dark age or Christian/Medieval Europe can work just fine. Of course, if the character starts talking about racism and what not, then we have a problem.

The movie is ok even tho Banderas magically learning to speak Norse (?) was retarded. IIRC in the book one of the vikings speaks latin and he basically serves as a translator for Ibn Fadlan.

First we should ponder if it's reasonable for the writers to come up with the idea in the first place. If this was the first game it happened in ever, one might think the writers just wanted to highlight a forgotten part of history. But since gentlemen of color are everywhere in historical settings nowadays the former is clearly not the case, and we must instead search for ulterior motives.

I'll admit this is 3rd hand info, but there's another user who's Czech and claims to know what is behind NDA through someone they know having early access and is sharing what the Devs refuse to. However knowing what I know about Varva and Warhorse from before this all blew up, it is the most plausible information out of any that have been posted so far, that's for the Black guy.
The Gay scene being optional and the fact that is has consequences in line with what a gay man would face historically has basically been confirmed by Varva himself basically.

Apart from those if he is a doctor he probably knows a bit of latin. Then possibly turkish or persian as these were important languages in the muslim world at the time. Maybe Henry knows Latin?
